Projects after project...
Last Wednesday, I got an offer from Mr. Kim Dong Sung, the Director of Dongwha Golden-hope International(DGI), Penang to join a project which will be conducted by him. The project which is called Management Training Program will take about 2 years and the team members consist of HR experts which I guess should be at least from manager level and above. He told me that this project has been done successfully in big companies such as British Tobacco Company. (Remark: British Tobacco Company was his previous employer). I had one-to-one meeting with him and he really hopes that I could be under his coaching. He said that this is the good opportunity for me to grow up as an expert in HR and a bright chance for me to be promoted sooner, earlier than I thought. He said that this might be his own "욕심" over me, so he asked me to think about it first, since it could be a golden chance for myself. This Management Training Project is scheduled to start on Feb.'09, right after we finish the present project (GPI Project). If I accept his offer, it means I have to go back to Korea to pack all my stuffs and get back to Penang, working hard on this project for 2 years. I have to think about this. Plus, I don't really think that I'm capable of doing this project. I'm still new in this field. I'm afraid that I couldn't give 100% contribution to the project, even if I want to.
BUT, two days after the meeting, I got an email from Mr. Ahn Sang Won, the Deputy of Senior Manager in Korea, about Business Intelligence(BI) Project which is scheduled to start on Feb.'09 and will take about 2 months. Guess what??? My name was on the list! This is crazy! How could the management in Korea-Malaysia didn't discuss about this? How can they put the same person in two different projects? Do you guys think that I'm your robot? My brain couldn't process too many things at one time. One more thing, they said that they are going to shut down a plant in Kulim for two months and slow down the production in other plants since there's not many orders will come in, due to the economy crisis. Don't you think of the production operators in plants? How are they gonna survive? What can they say to their family? You shut down the plant. You give them little compensation, but what are you thinking of? Few hundreds ringgit Malaysia is enough for them? For their family? The perbelanjaan entertainment (minum2, karaoke, 회식) for Korean expatriates here in Penang is RM 15000 per month for 10 people. Means to say that the average for one person is RM 1500? Only for entertainment??? And then, during this economy crisis, you can still talking about doing this and that project while people on the floors are suffering??? Insane! Totally insane!
But who am I. I'm only an executive with 7 months working experience and I have no power to stop them. Don't get me wrong. The 'executive' is just a title. There's nothing to do with that. So, I only have 3 choices for now that really need me to think deeply about it.
1. Go on with Management Training Project (2 years-Penang)
(not really familiar with this project and I don't have confidence that I can do that)
2. Go on with BI Project (2 months-Korea)
(I believe I can do this since it is related to the SAP, to the system, and I will be in charge of HR module again. What I can say here is this project is the continuous version of GPI Project that I'm assigned for right now)
3. Walk away from this company
